About Us - Who we are
PANIM is a non-profit, advocacy organization working to promote pluralistic Judaism in Israel in partnership with over 50 organizations and institutions that share its vision.
VISION
Recognizing that strengthening pluralistic Judaism is a strategic goal for the State of Israel, PANIM strives to make meaningful and diverse Jewish cultural experiences the birthright of all Israeli Jews, and works toward long-term, national reform that will make pluralistic Judaism an ever-present and key factor influencing all aspects of the public agenda.
BACKGROUND
During the past thirty years, and particularly in the last decade, this vision has led to the creation of many organizations and institutions— liberal, secular, and Orthodox — that run educational and communal activities related to Jewish pluralism and renewal.
Yet, despite the proliferation of such groups and activities all over Israel, the idea and very existence of Jewish pluralism remains in the sidelines of cultural and social discourse, the educational system, politics, and the media, and has not been given proper governmental support or public recognition.
PANIM was founded in 1998 to put pluralistic Judaism and Jewish renaissance “on the map” in Israel and make it a much more central part of Israeli consciousness and discourse.
MISSION
PANIM’s mission is to increase public and government recognition of Jewish pluralism and pluralistic Jewish education as a strategically important component of Israel’s strength as a nation, and to demand more government funding for its development.
PANIM
• Helps state schools and organizations obtain government funding for pluralistic Jewish educational programs
• Promotes increased public spending on pluralistic Jewish education
• Produces events that help expand public awareness of pluralistic Judaism
